about volcanoes and butterflies
Theory of causation states that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a volcano to erupt
I used to always think that was nonsense,
Until now.
I used to feel like a rock
Three, four years ago, I felt like a rock
A small, insignificant rock
Cast out into the ocean and buried deep underwater.
I believed I wouldn’t amount to anything great
I would always appear blurred by water, crushed by waves, miles from sunlight
Because I was just me. And I wasn’t anything special.
I never imagined myself feeling good or content with who I am.
I never thought that was possible for a rock.
But volcanoes are rocks.
Volcanoes erupt when magma from deep within pushes itself to the surface.
For years I kept that magma deeply buried.
And today,
Today I feel like a volcano erupting.
And you,
You’re the butterfly that flapped its wings, so unaware of the volcano you would set off
