ACCIDENT BY THE PIER

The most difficult poem to write
is the one that can barley exit your heart.
You stormed out of the boat
hurt and angry at what I had done.
I waited five minutes
put on my coat and chased after you.
I came back to the boat
and a few seconds later you walked in
drenching wet from head to toe.
You said someone pulled you out
before you drowned, and
I thought about this for a while.
I see the aftermath
of you floating in the water
a woman that loved me more than life
and bow my head in tears.
You have lived for me
the music and art
and everyday you celebrated us.
I feel so rudely awakened
that I am feeling the remorse:
an accident by the pier.
I promise myself to never hurt you
and keep myself knowing
that I need you more each day.
You have given me all of who you are
because you want to share
all that we are together.
Almost
an accident by the pier – God saved you.
