Adulterous Inexplicability

Sometimes we're slammed, left yearning
Like a God in pain
Anxious that the hallowed hour approaching
Blinds us to that which is sacrosanct
Bleeding inside for the anticipated
And angry about that which can't be debated...
The preacher has spoken, you're tainted
Everyone knows you've sinned
You've committed the crime, you're painted
You know it was Love, you'd do it again
The inexplicable has somehow occurred
And entirely eaten away your self worth...
Amid the timbrels, and retributions resort
A plethora of whispers
Parishioners whispering in anger
Or, just for sport...
That which is untamed inside
That feral piece of the human soul
That rises to the surface
During dire inexplicabilities magnetic moments
That argent revelry that can't be controlled
These we must cling to
When life is most grave
Or we may not live,
To see happiness,
Again...

I dunno, Tony. In the title, you claim "Inexplicability" ... and then spend the whole of the poem (particularly that last stanza) explicating your theme in a rather compelling manner!!
It seems to be a preoccupation of your work lately; that duality in humankind...part-animal, part-god ...a constant psychomachia, unending and unwinnable: the tremendous heights and terrible depths to which we can go.
Throughout, your phrasing and imagery are mouth-watering; though the line...
...is especially delicious!
Sensuous, conflicted, profound and beautiful!!

Hey JASON!!....... it's not just the work of late...... it is in the core of my belief system....... part human difficulty of comprehending his environment....... part understanding that the cosmos was created.........is a duality that not many even dare tackle........ we are idiots if we think there is no creator....... but then...... how do we explain (as Emerson did)........that nature has something to teach........... we are spirit in our core......no denying that........ but then there are those who walk this planet calling themselves atheists....... seems like there is work to be done...... you have the words of a thinker......... where do those words come from my friend?....... certainly not us humans...... perhaps our implanted DNA?.......... somehow I think the world is a more complicated place..........I love your verbal fencing and implication...... but........I think EVERYONE knows God exists........... just me brother ...........LOVE and ROCKETS!!.........T xo. ?☀✴✳
Hi Tony I think your words are so true here
how adultery is treated.I think it is one sin that
does cause much pain to the one being cheated on
and then if found out will be talked about, sending self esteem
crashing.
Is it just in some people?
"That which is untamed inside
That feral piece of the human soul
That rises to the surface"
I think yes in my opinion
I think of, once a cheat always a cheat and have witnessed it
many times (just my thought as I read )
Thought provoking, wonderfully written as always
Love n hugs Debs xo
Hey Thanx DEBS!!...... it is one of the most devastating things about human relationships..... and yet....... in some people there seems to be an inexplicable quality that rises to the surface.... even though they know they will hurt their spouse...... they cannot fight that magnetic pull...... and actually think of it as Love......I sometimes feel bad for them as well....... it's as though they're broken somehow and cannot be fixed...... and then pay dearly for their actions...... not that I agree with them....... just seems sad for both parties ?........thNx so much for ALL your brilliant support my friend........ peace and hair grease!!....... smiles.......T xo ?☀✴✳
Hey Tony....Very interesting piece...These lines are so true:
"he preacher has spoken, you're tainted
Everyone knows you've sinned
You've committed the crime, you're painted
You know it was Love, you'd do it again
The inexplicable has somehow occurred
And entirely eaten away your self worth..."
My Dear Brother Poet Tony,
Let ye among you who is without sin, cast the first stone, said the Lord.
Yet, yesterday's friends, now whitewash their sins with you as their scapegoat.
They whisper, pointing guilty fingers at anyone but themselves.
But, God points His fingers to your heart and says,
"Feel My love"
"For as your brethren once wrote"
"To err is human"
"To forgive is divine"
Peace, Love and Rockets,
Larry xxx
And you nailed it once again! And this time on a very dangerous territory :)
The bitter-sweet struggle, the emotions...
