Afloat

This cruise had been smooth sailing
When a squall came along
Tossing the ship about
Throwing me overboard
Into the inky sea
Without a life vest
Currents pulling at legs
Waves pushing me under
Kicking, flailing
Desperate to keep my head above the surface
Gusting wind rips through the air
Capsizing the ship
All souls are lost
Except for me
Bobbing in the suddenly calm waters
Searching for any scrap of hope
Any sort of lifeline
Anything at all
Anything to keep me afloat.
