Afore Dawn
Acrostic

Awakened he was midst dull dreams—
From crows’ ceaseless caws and cackles—
Ominous winds and sombrous screams—
Reimbursed him his chains and shackles—
Enslaved him with revamped doom.
Delirious whimpers led his rise—
And soon he paced in surmise—
Wondrous whispers which did soon—
Navigate his eyes to the moon.
Curious he looked and hence spoke—
O mystic moon, how since world’s dawn—
Man and beast have both peered upon—
Earnest cries which have long since soaked—
Some sombrous earth which has spelled gloom.
Thieves, nobles, peasants and kings—
Have gazed upon thy gleaming ring—
Ever since world’s mysterious spring.
Remember o moon, days of yore?
Epochs long diminished as lore?
Seasons cycled and eras seen?
Timeless existence, one would deem!
Lovers who loved under thy glow?
Elusive cries from lost love’s woe?
Sullen man, who has long waged wars?
Surcease me dear moon! Hear me roar!
Murmurs and mumbles, he soon heard—
Old and wise, from whence the moon lurked—
O man, who has come once anon—
Noble one! Leave me be! Begone!
