I & Holly

I & Holly

We were children who fell in love
Like a decree from Gods above
Whose sentence had led a white dove
To hop, soar up and sweep above,
Thus, had begun I and Holly.

Then, when all were well and jolly,
There, a sense of melancholy
Soon bewitched both I and Holly
To muse on our suchlike folly
Which bonded us a dozen years.

But as words streamed instead as tears,
Quavering lips soon spewed her fears:
Like bitter whispers in cold ears
When darkness enwraps and hence nears.
Thus, had ended I and Holly.
