Poem -

African Drum Demon

I’m so damn tired I’m losing sleep

Throw that drummer off somewhere steep;

But his rhythm would pound on in my head

Surely long after I render him dead.

The cause of my agony is not his fault

It’s the whole lot, them and their cult.

I’m told I was awakened just in time

-midnight – to be warned of an evil crime:

These idiots pounded on through the night

To scare a devil, diminish its might.

A woman possessed in early death throws

The drummer must drum until all know:

A demon has crept very near

You must cling to what you hold dear.

The rhythm persisted til seven o’clock

Only then was this nonsense able to stop;

I hope they scared away this devil

And screwed their heads back on level

Because daylight brings with it a new enemy

A demon, they’ll find, is now inside of me.
