Afterlife

Afterlife

I embrace my presence, my gift of breath,
Interlaced with all essence, I query beyond death.
What lies after all when our light is extinguished?
What if anything, are we after existence diminished?

Our body in mourning lay in dust in pass,
The ink still wet on certificate of last,
Broken with age, succumbed to the shadows,
Lay sunken in the earth whilst loved ones in harrow.

Surely the dawning of a new birth?
Our family of old in joy and mirth?
On obscured plains of tranquil and peace,
Our suffering that was ends to cease?

Our question of a lifetime answered in fair,
What is the meaning of all grandeur and flair?
Our hearts fulfilled in metaphysical sense,
To greener pastures beyond immense?

I would like to think so, it gives faith and hope,
Comforting thoughts on life's slippery slope.
Emotion so powerful connects us all,
What is the mean of, if anything at all?
