Alien Encounter

Alien Encounter

Do you have a problem - they asked only you,
it seems like that - whatever you may try to do;
so you came all this way, ingratiating, fawning,
devolved, gathered your weak armoury one morning.

They sat you down, difficult not to be a clown,
of course, maybe literature you might have known;
enlighten me they said - pretend you're well read,
might not be too late to put something to bed.

Tell me what you know about Alpha Centauri,
not much - only what you may pretend to be;
although, not the first in the galaxy, backpacker,
there was a guide, we know it was a hitchhiker.

Latched on to all and sundry, next day monday,
there's still hope - one day might be conciliatory.
