ALMOST SIXTY

I can see it
Life fading with each sunsetÂ
I can feel it
My zeal dripping through the cracksÂ
My sprint has come to a crawlÂ
My voice crackingÂ
And once sparkling brown eyesÂ
Without glasses, can't see at allÂ
Oh how my bones ache bad
Pain never before felt or had
Three flights of stairsÂ
Seems like a mountain to climbÂ
Its so difficult to recall day and timeÂ
My mind plays tricks on meÂ
Saying you can be what you want to beÂ
But old age reminds me
There are consequencesÂ
In the face of stupidityÂ
So on my cane I leanÂ
Wrinkled bald and afraidÂ
I used to look forward to the new dayÂ
But turning sixty has gotten in the way Â
After all, it was at age fiftyÂ
That my older brother passed away.Â
