An Angel Beat The Devil, Inspired by Mizzy’s Poem “The Taking Of Her Smiles”
The Angel sang with trilling voice, a smile upon her face;
She thought of hopscotch and hide and seek, at school a relay race!
But lurking very near to her, was a beast from down below;
He conjured up an evil plan, based on kindness her to show!
.
He wiped the evil from his lips, then on them placed a grin;
He slithered to her lovely side, and conversation did begin!
She thought when he said “candy kiss”, twas the kind for children to ingest!
So innocent, not knowing soon, that him she would detest!
.
It took just minutes to ruin her life, her smiles turned to tears;
No matter how she tried forget, the pain stayed many years!
But one day she met her soul’s dear mate, who showed her how to heal;
While the Devil met an early death, it’s writ bore God’s own seal!

My dear Larry,
In the poem which inspired this, Mick's narrative is relatively straightforward; heartbreaking, but straightforward! But here, you've given the same basic story a more mythical undertone...there are distinct echoes of Eve and the serpent; as evidenced by the title and the above quoted lines.
This is an excellent example of how two writers can take very different approaches to the same basic material; drawing their inspiration from the same source: but making their own unique work of art and creating a rather different experience for the reader.
Different, but no less powerful.
Remarkable!
your friend & fan,

My Dear Friend Jason,
As usual, your words of praise take my breath away. Aside from that, your brilliant interpretation is astounding. You are able to go straight to the heart of a work, and define it to the letter. I feel like you should be teaching Literature courses at Oxford, for if there ever was a "Scholar", it certainly is you. Your knowledge is never ending, and each time I read the words you have written, I learn. I guess that proves the theory "it's never to late to teach an old dog new tricks".
Your friend forever,
Larry xxx
Well Larry...
I suppose you could ask Cody...though I'm not sure how well he'd take to being called "an old dog"?! You may wake tomorrow morning to discover that he's chewed all of your shoes in retribution!!
your friend & fan (and fellow "old dog" lover),
J ;)
My Dear Friend Jason,
It never dawned on me, that the reason he has such a pure sole, is because he has been chewing my shoes for years. I guess I was eschewing even that possibility. Now that I think about it, your hypothesis is a shoe in for reality. I think from now on when he tries to repeat this act, I will have to shoo him away. By the way, his favorite composer is Schubert.
Peace and Love,

This is an important portrayal of how easily men like that can take innocence away and destroy so many young lives. These experiences are never forgotten and lead to even further suffering in adulthood for these victims of such evil. Well done for bringing this subject up and writing such a wonderful, sympathetic piece. If only we could irradicate these men and their filthy ways.
God bless my Larry
I love you

My Dear G,
It is amazing when Linda and I watch some of our favorite shows on television, which involve investigative reporting, that we find out a girl has been molested, and within just a few miles of her residence, a myriad of sex offenders reside. Some are registered, but others somehow slip under the radar. Yet, I think in the end, these monsters answer not to us, but to God, who assures us of their eradication.
God has already blessed your Larry, with your love.

Beautiful my Sweet Daddio... Would have to read Mizzy's write.....you did a wonderful job here... Well done
My Dear Sweet Rose,
He gave me the inspiration to pen my thoughts on a most horrendous act of evil, that takes place far too often. These beautiful, innocent young Angels, who fall prey to the Monsters from Hell, I like to think will get their retribution from the hand of God.
Love you,
Daddio xxx
Hi Larry...
I'm glad that my poem on such an evil subject could inspire you
to pen your own version . Well done. ...great writing !
Thank you for the mention.......Mick.
My Brother Poet Mick,
Again, thank you for your powerful prose on a very delicate subject. The moment I read it, I was inspired by you to write one of my own.
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
