An Old Companion

Planes down
nowhere now we go
dusty rucksack crumpled in a corner
once international traveller
sounds and textures escape
fraying patches
threadbare strips
Jordan... Yemen... Egypt
treasure
in old rouge sands
Aboriginal sunset
a peace sign
southern solidarity
Indonesian "merah-putih"
Malaysian orchids
Brunei stars and moons
The motto of my university
"Universal Knowledge,
Timeless Truth"
that distinct scent:
passports, visas, tickets and licenses
karkhi pockets still jingle
different currencies
Aum pays homage
Indian vistas
slurps from the Ganges herself
sinddhi truck
flamboyant as a gate to paradise
mangrove canoe among sundarband lotuses
a Sri Lankan buddha
a Portuguese façade
east-west Macao fusion
stretched and stretching the imagination
Many memories dancing
spirits of gratitude
love
hope
celebration

Very unique format and theme.
I liked all the comparisons with currency and nationalities. I learned a lot by reading the poem. I'm slightly confused about the theme though, but maybe after I return later to read it again, it will become clearer. Thanks for sharing your poem.

The poem is a description of my rucksack that has cotton badges sewn on it from places we travelled. Our journeying together started in 2001. I used poetic license with some things, for example I travelled to Hong Kong and Macao in 1996/7 before I bought that bag. Lol
