ANCHOR ME

ANCHOR ME

The scale is to one side pending
                                                   the good values are bending,
                                                   it has a bitter taste
more like a slap in the face.
We cling to the sound of the words
                                                   parity, justice, fairness…
but they are a dream unattainable
                                                   a task unachievable
                                                   evaporating, dissipating, drifting away
pulled down by the ocean waves
                                                   when the storm clouds roll.
Do we just spit out the bitter taste
go to dream in another place,
or beneath the storm we keep afloat.
I am one of a thousand shells
but I am not made of salt and sleep
nor am I wood or stone.
If I can tilt the scale, even just a bit,
                                                   I’ll be the anchor!
and we won’t sink with the shipwreck,
we’ll be the sail above the blue.

I think you have described the world today here. In the last ten, fifteen years there has been a palpable shift. A creeping dread beneath the surface of society. How can any society be fair when it is dictated by toxicity, greed and lies... when even the effort of questioning seems too much effort and a pointless task. Still... so long as i can afford those new read shoes...😑
love your stuff x
