ANNIVERSARY POEM

My darling, I want to watch a thousand beautiful sunsets

With you holding me in your strong arms

I want to remember a thousand beautiful sunrises

And be captivated once again, by your strength, and your charms

I want us both to run into the beautiful ocean

And see passion in your eyes when you give chase

I want to see some interest when you look my way

And a smile that says it all, when I look at your face

I need to know that we are on the same path

And to know the waters will be calm when we're on great adventures

Can we just play like children, building castles in the sand?

And can I laugh until daybreak, without being censored

I want to make love on the beach, in the ocean

And as we move to the caress of its warm, gentle waves

I want to know a love without all these questions

And see our dreams come out of their forgotten cage

I want to wake up alongside you every morning

I want us both to know more than we've known all these years

I want us to feel hope, and we should be best friends

And break free of these silent hours, lost moments, and fears

You must put in effort, and rekindle the flames of lost love

That drew me to you in the very beginning

Help me quiet the questions, and kick-start this relationship

Because, in God's eyes, we are losing far more than we're winning

It's our 8th Anniversary, and its time that I knew

The answers to these questions, I've continually asked

We're either in it for the long run, let me go, or change direction

And repair what's still hiding, behind these smiling masks

I may be the only one learning 

What love and friendship truly needs to grow

If you won't walk beside me, let me go, or start again

It's breaking my heart feeling so  lost and alone…
