April Showers

I met you in Spring, in front of my mother
and I think she saw the Winter in your heart when
she honked her horn and scared you.
I liked that when you got the job
at the same old movie theatre I did,
you did it for a distraction, and I'm glad I was that distraction
you called beautiful.
Spring was a distraction for us, to
give us the illusion we were going to be okay, but when
April showers came, May and the flowers didn't. There was no relief
when the showers poured down.
May was skipped and January reared its ugly head and
all I could feel were your cold lips.
And now I feel numb.
