As a child

As a child
I would have abstract dreams,
of spheres moving in space.
I didn't play sports so...
they weren't left-over
phantom-memories of missed
baseball pitches.

I was on the chess team;
and had asthma,
and my orb fantasies
were some encrypted message
-- a secret that I didn't know,
about myself.Β

Maybe subconsciously
I wanted to be an astronaut,
all kids wanted to be astronauts,Β
or there was too much fluoride
in the water.Β Β

Not unlike our solar system
the circles would dance,Β
rolling slowly they sounded
like whales moaning,
their sonar call was to meΒ
an echo from within.Β

My nocturnal space was an ocean
I floated on her wavesΒ
imaging imagings.
Submerged in a bubble, surrounded by my droning mammal spheres.

They protected me.Β

From being ordinary.
