At Clovelly: ( North Devon)

At Clovelly: ( North Devon)

At the ancient town
of Clovelly, the scents of
cod, herring and
green seaweed, drift on the warm
summer air. Sailors
and fishermen dream nightly
of wide open seas:
bountiful with silver treasures;
beneath deep blue waves.
Donkeys and sledges tumble
along cobbled streets.
Rows of white- washed, flower- strewn
cottages add to
the quietude and languid ways.
They're broken only
by narrow passageways
and winding lanes that
offer such delightful sights.
Clinging to a cliff,
Clovelly is a window
To a bygone age,
Before more functional times,
staked their steely claims
on sovereign consciousness.
This ancient town is
a unique sanctuary.
