Australian crawl

I was listening to Australian crawl
When nerve pain began in my right

Big toe.

One day the toe may even come off,

They said.

One day, I knew more than most my age,

I'd be dead.

What's more is what made me

Remember Australian crawl was this;

I'd been asked by my councillor

Whether or not I got frustrated?

My reply was that usually I became

Despondent.

That was a song, was it not?

Yeah, Downhearted.

I didn't feel I had the energy for frustration.

I went straight to hopelessness.

That's how I came to listen to the band.

They had five hits. I knew all of them.
They were my kind of music.

As for my toe, I'd wait to see the podiatrist

The next Tuesday.
