Autism & My Son

Autism & My Son

I wrote this for my friends who have children with autism , their children are always judged and people just assume before asking what is wrong, they are special - nothings wrong

Just because my child’s different
It doesn’t make him any less special than yours
If anything, he’s amazing
With the daily struggle, he endures

When you see him scream & cry
In the middle of the shop
Don’t just think “what a brat”
Understand its autism he’s got

He screams because his voice won’t work
It’s not broken but few words known
He finds it hard to show affection
When he does speak its monotone

He flaps his hands and rocks back and forth
Because he feels agitated
If he doesn’t have his same routine
He is confused and very frustrated

Please don’t think he’s ignorant
When you talk and he won’t look
Please don’t think he’s fussy
When he won’t eat when you cook

Autism controls his every thought
And all the things he does
He finds it hard to bond with people
Or to let them gain his trust

His guard is up all the time
His fence is built so high
That’s what autism does
It makes your child shy

So please don’t judge my son
When he screams and cries so loud
Understand thats his autism
And any noise he makes
Makes us so proud
