AUTUMN SEGUE INTO OCTOBER (Inspired by Chris Correla's "This Time in October")
There is such a flirtation beyond my window!
Winds whistling side to side, enticing the trees
To surrender their modesty and bare slender leafless limbs
As an oblation to honor the advent of shorter days,
Deeper nights and sighs afloat upon tingling breezes.
Foliage in reds, golds, and browns traverse the vertical
Drafts earthward; a migration; a swirling palette
Suffused with autumn’s complexion against a swarthy sky!
The earth’s prospectus is changing, shape shifting
Into a “winter mystic” offering portents and promises;
A seasonal segue that imbues the air with ancient songs
To persuade the autumnal equinox to yield its hold
And permit the entrance of winter’s solstice.
It is a seduction, a deliberate exchange of passions!
The earth is supine, anticipating this time of intimacy:
Veiled beneath a blanket of white crystal blossoms
In repose for a season amid visions of springtime renewed!
