Poem -

Awake, My Soul

Awake, my soul,

In an African plain,

Where the children scrape their plates,

Awake, my soul,

In a Mexican home,

Where the dogs eat the chicken bones,

Awake, my soul,

In the barren Texas tundra,

Where a man comes home,

After his family has gone to bed,

Awake, my soul,

In an empty English cottage,

Where a schoolboy lost control,

Awake, my soul,

In an Irish pub,

Where a man has finally drank too much,

Awake, my soul,

In the Great Plains,

Or near a great lake,

Or by a tower's base,

But never sleep,

My soul,

For my lover's sake,

A strand of hope,

When my soul,

Creaks and crumbles,

And out of bed,

Tumbles,

And wakes,

Awake,

My soul,

There is no point to sleep through this life,

There is a brilliant hope,

In my lover's eyes.
