Awkward Symmetry

You’re not perfect, I must admit,

And I know that you don’t care,

Sometimes I have the urge to rip

The awkward silence from the air.

Your eyes do not shine starry bright

And your teeth: they do not sparkle.

You say I’m the only one in sight;

Your vision must be tunnel.

We may not see eye to eye

Nor read off the same page,

You release from my mouth a sigh

When you describe to me your ways.

Escape from my mouth they never will,

These butterflies awoke by your name.

We speed down separate paths, though bodies still,

Because no two hearts beat the same.

The sounds of confusion subside in my head

And my chest beats rapidly as you draw near

I thought I’d fear falling in love – but instead,

I discover there is only one heart beat I hear…
