The Baby and the Shark

There's a baby and a shark that come this time of year
And the baby brings some hope but the shark brings only fear
So I look at a christmas card that says eat drink and merry
But I can't afford to give my kids the gifts which are customary

Cos there's people like to diss skint father's and mothers
I've felt it all my life I'm not as good as others
Who give their kids the lot and more, and more, and more
Because they can afford to shop in every single store

So the shark knocks at my door, and smiles, and says now you've been blessed
I'll get you the cash you need you'll be like all the rest
And I'm thinking to myself about a manger and a stable
Cos now they've been replaced by credit cards and designer label

So there's a baby and shark who come this time of year
And now the baby's gone I'm left with only fear

To explain this I have never written anything before, but I wrote this piece as part of my role as a support worker to highlight to service users how easy it can be to be manipulated if you feel you and your family are  financially excluded. I have posted it now because I noticed Christmas cards in the shops last weekend so the annual madness starts again.
