Poem -

Hope for you

Your life damn near frittered away

Kept whole as best we could making no deduction

We cradled you that dayĀ

Our human face alive embracing harm reductionĀ

Day in day out to the needle exchange whereĀ

To swop the things that brought your pain

Dirty, shabby, seedy and stripped bare

For more of the same, with little gain

Of the insight or the guts you need to find the sparkĀ

Yes to appreciate your life and the pain of othersĀ

Who wait with torches ready to light the dark

Fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers

Without boast or confidence or ambition for youĀ

Faithfully ,lovingly they wait in vain

And then it comes you, you ,you Ā give hope to those whoĀ

Never dared to hope againĀ

My child you hearĀ the mother sobĀ

TearsĀ from others who elated whirl and dance

You, who wasĀ never cast outĀ return and therebyĀ robĀ

Those mocking disbelievers of second chance Ā
