BACK POCKET

Got a picture of my kid in my back pocket
This train's going off the tracks, baby try and stop it
Filling out an application for some change
Should I beg for it, or work for the pain
Honey the weather is changin, feel the wind blow
Should we run for shelter...I don't know

Got a shirt that's torn, a bag that's packed
There's no motivation honey, that I lack
Two quarters in my front pocket and a dream in the back

Got my thumb out on the side of the road
Pretty little girl pulls up real slow
"Are you headed for sun Sir or are ya heading for snow?"
She saw her reflection in my aviators, as she started to go
Guess she figured I was waiting on the sun, took a hard left
That's how it begun

BRIDGE: When it gets cold, she keeps me warm
Built a nice little house that weathers the storm
Not may times does it ever pay to run, this time it did
Pretty little girl, me and my son

Got a shirt that's torn, the bag is packed
There's no motivation honey, that I lack
Two quarters in my front pocket and a dream in the back
Still got a shirt that's torn but it's unpacked

It is nice to keep something close(in your back pocket ) There are things that we see that we cannot be prepared for, but there is always some preparation to be done. Life is not fair and when we think we have it in control, we find we have no grasp at all! This is a fine poem/song and I hope to hear it on the radio some day! Good job, The Shaker

Anthony-  This is definitely a SONG!!!!! I was trying to sing along, and it just got better, not necessarily my singing, but this poem! lol It is very unique, as you always write very pure and original!

Congrats, I really like it!

I appreciate everyone's support so much. I think the key is to write when you're inspired, I wrote this lyric about five months ago when I saw a man sitting on a stool in Dunkin' Donuts filling out an application for a job. There was keychain picture of his child hanging out of his pocket while he was writing. Contests are okay because they encourage your best but your best work comes from the time of inspiration. I thought it was a nice fit for this month's topic.

Anthony- You just brought tears to my eyes, the picture of his child hanging out of his pocket on the keychain, WOW! that is a true poem in itself!

I have Baby on the way, so all your votes mean so much at this point in time. I'm working everyday and still writing. Hope I'm doing my job at conveying the struggle. Thanks again!
