bad religion
if you are a person of religious belief please take no offence to this!!, it is simply a poem.
bad religionÂ
my knees acheÂ
they blister bruise and bleedÂ
my knees plead to restÂ
maybe if they could they’d pray for it to stop
the cruelty they’re subject toÂ
because of my sinsÂ
my beliefsÂ
my palms sweatÂ
warts blossom over the skinÂ
they beg to be apartÂ
for holding them together is tortureÂ
maybe if they could they’d pray for it to stop
my voice pleadsÂ
it speaks to me with silenceÂ
it begs for me to stop my daily routineÂ
to stop using it for the same prayerÂ
maybe if it could it would pray for me to stop
my mind begsÂ
it cries screams and crawlsÂ
the pollution of my religion has blackened itÂ
for why would my all forgiving god torture it with routines and rulesÂ
punishments and fearÂ
i don’t think it would pray for it to stopÂ
it’s unbarebly aware of the truthÂ
of its brainwashingÂ
of the thorns that wrap around my headÂ
of the nails that sink into my palms and kneesÂ
of the resentment god has against meÂ
and how he wishes to expose me to the pain he enduredÂ
the reminants of my imprisonment scream to meÂ
if there is a god, he will have to beg for my forgivenessÂ
he will plead on his knees till the flesh is no more and the bone chipsÂ
he will clasp his hands till the skin sheds and weepsÂ
he will scream his sorrows till his throat rains with redÂ
and he will also realise how i wish to expose him to the pain i endured in my bad religion.

Wow this is one powerful poem. Maybe you could say it's one that needed writing. To expose the rituals normally associated with genuflection and prayer. Why? Surely prayers will be heard without the need for that. But we've been conditioned to believe that it is the way to pray. It gets quite controversial when you mention the crown of thorns and the nails and when you turn forgiveness on its head at the end. But hey fair play to you.Â
