Poem -

bad religion

if you are a person of religious belief please take no offence to this!!, it is simply a poem.

bad religion
my knees ache
they blister bruise and bleed
my knees plead to rest
maybe if they could they’d pray for it to stop
the cruelty they’re subject to
because of my sins
my beliefs
my palms sweat
warts blossom over the skin
they beg to be apart
for holding them together is torture
maybe if they could they’d pray for it to stop
my voice pleads
it speaks to me with silence
it begs for me to stop my daily routine
to stop using it for the same prayer
maybe if it could it would pray for me to stop
my mind begs
it cries screams and crawls
the pollution of my religion has blackened it
for why would my all forgiving god torture it with routines and rules
punishments and fear
i don’t think it would pray for it to stop
it’s unbarebly aware of the truth
of its brainwashing
of the thorns that wrap around my head
of the nails that sink into my palms and knees
of the resentment god has against me
and how he wishes to expose me to the pain he endured
the reminants of my imprisonment scream to me
if there is a god, he will have to beg for my forgiveness
he will plead on his knees till the flesh is no more and the bone chips
he will clasp his hands till the skin sheds and weeps
he will scream his sorrows till his throat rains with red
and he will also realise how i wish to expose him to the pain i endured in my bad religion.

Wow this is one powerful poem. Maybe you could say it's one that needed writing. To expose the rituals normally associated with genuflection and prayer. Why? Surely prayers will be heard without the need for that. But we've been conditioned to believe that it is the way to pray. It gets quite controversial when you mention the crown of thorns and the nails and when you turn forgiveness on its head at the end. But hey fair play to you.
