BADGE OF SHAME

BADGE OF SHAME

The Germans ordered me to wear a badge of shame
It was so degrading they didn't give it a name
A six pointed Star of David which everyone knew
I was a religious outsider and was born a Jew

Inscribed on this badge was the word Jude
The Germans saw it and gave me no food
They also gave me no place to rest and dwell
As far as they were concerned I came from hell

How could one human being be so unkind ?
They beat up my folks and didn't seem to mind
Somehow I managed to come through it alive
Where only the strongest are the ones to survive
