Baptism of the Infatuated

Baptism of the Infatuated

I see two pools,
Both clear, both blue,
Both deep, both glimmer,
Under silky moon.

They beckon and call,
The lunar diamonds glisten
And sing out to me
'Tho I must not listen.

But I do, how could I not?
Wade in, dive in,
Get lost in them and
Cleanse my soul of desperate sin.

Swim, swim to the bottom,
Dive down, deep down
To certain ecstacy although
I'm not quite sure as to why it's brown

And where's the surface gone?
I went in, sinned and am lost.
Alone in the dark
And inevitable cold frost.

That freezes and burns.
The onslaught of pain,
I'm drowning, tangled in weeds
And mud and shame.

I'm frightened, alone,
No light, no sound.
Lost in the water,
Need to be found.

Then she turns back around

And I'm back on dry ground.
