Poem -

Barack Obama

Barack Obama

When the news came out

that America had its first

black president in their history

I had all the nine year old children

in Sunday school class, write an essay

just to say how they felt about it.

Their parents were of Caribbean descent

but the children were born in this country.

One little girl wrote in the essay

that her parents jumped for joy

screaming in celebration.

Shaking the house so hard dishes fell

One little boy wrote down

that his dad began crying uncontrollably

Not too many of them seem to understand

what all the fuss was about

Having a black president seemed

quite natural to them

Hello Christopher...

This will one day be taught in History?

I  have a question?

With everything I heard from the beginning of his presidency...

Was he honest?

Does Abraham Lincoln still hold the honor of the honest one?

Great write!

Thank you for sharing...

Hugs and Smiles!

hey sparrowsong, thanks for comment, wow, being of mixed origin and from Canada, I see Obama in a certain way; it's less about him as an individual, more about being the first black president in the most powerful country on the planet...is Obama honest?  I have no clue, lol....was Abraham Lincoln honest?  I have no clue, lol...sometimes I wonder that if I had grown up in America if I would think in terms of black and white, instead of shades of gray, lol....honestly, are there any absolutes in life?  who is really 'honest' or 'never told a lie'  or any other cliche you can think of?  poem is not trying to tackle the character or honesty of Obama, it literally happened as it is written, and that was the reaction of certain people when he became president, my friend drove to the states to see him get sworn in, slept in his car, and barely got a glimpse,  my friend is not a black man, he is Indian, and for many people in the world, the first black man to become president in America seems like an impossible thing becoming real, I never thought I would see it, lol....the politics of Obama aside, it is one of the major events of the twenty-first century,  just saying....cheers sparrowsong
