Batteries

A beep too much 
I close my eyes so I don't have to watch.
You held a hand to stay in place
but were still taken away
for no hand can keep you here.

Months have passed but still it's loud
so loud to overcome a crowd
standing at your bed.

And you have gone, cut our branches
the ones that reached out for you.
Away you flew
alone.

Your empty batteries 
left us with a beep.
Of the heart monitor.
