Poem -

beat by beat

beat by beat

what can I tell you
  that you haven’t heard before?
what else can I add
if your beauty has no comparison?
if I say you are heaven on earth
if I say you mean everything to me
  without you I cannot live
without you I would lose my mind
upon reflection I understand
I might sound a little bit silly
although I challenge
  my own imagination
  trying to express
  thousands of wonderful things
at the end of all the speeches
that make a soul fall in love
words are only words
that is why in the name of the love
  I feel for you
I will remain silent
but if you trust me
close your eyes
don't listen to what your ears
might hear
clear your mind of all
judgment and reason
put aside
all those beautiful things
you have been told before and
put your open hand here
yes, here over my chest
feel for yourself what my heart
has to tell you and believe it
when it says that it beats
only for you
because that is the truth
beat by beat

latido a latido

¿qué puedo decirle a usted
   a mi propia imaginación
   tratando de expresar
   un millón de cosas maravillosas
al final de todos los discursos
   que enamoren a el alma
las palabras son sólo palabras
por eso en el nombre del amor
   que yo siento por usted
yo guardaré silencio
pero si usted confía en mí
cierre sus ojos
no atienda a lo que sus oídos
puedan escuchar
limpie su mente de todo
juicio y razón
ponga a un lado
todas esas cosas bellas
que ya antes le han dicho y
ponga su mano abierta aquí
sí, aquí sobre mi pecho
sienta por usted lo que mi corazón
tiene que decirle y créale
cuando dice que él late
sólo por usted
porque esa es la vedad
latido a latido

if only everybody could fall in love again and see things differently like when we were young.

It is a lovely expression of love.
Holla Edwin, I personally like very much this poem in Spanish (I also speak Spanish, almost fluent to understand it) and the lines “ que enamoren a el alma, las palabras son solo palabras” is very hard to give the same feeling as in English. I hope you keep the Spanish version.

Hello Bernadete

J'ai Deux Amours sang Josephine Baker.  Yo tengo dos amores y algunas otras pasiones.  I love Spanish and English, but I have relatives and friends who only speak one of those languages, that's why I adopted a bilingual habit.

You are right, there are things that sometimes sound odd when translating or not quite the same sentiment, but in my opinion our feelings are the same in any language, perhaps not quite in the exact proportion but we all love, cry and long.

Your words feed my spirit, thank you.

Mario Benedetti is my favourite poet in Spanish.  Here for your delight...

Hagamos un trato
by Mario Benedetti

Compañera
usted sabe
que puede contar
conmigo
no hasta dos
o hasta diez
sino contar
conmigo

si alguna vez
advierte
que la miro a los ojos
y una veta de amor
reconoce en los míos
no alerte sus fusiles
ni piense qué delirio
a pesar de la veta
o tal vez porque existe
usted puede contar
conmigo

si otras veces
me encuentra
huraño sin motivo
no piense qué flojera
igual puede contar
conmigo

pero hagamos un trato
yo quisiera contar
con usted
      es tan lindo
saber que usted existe
uno se siente vivo
y cuando digo esto
quiero decir contar
aunque sea hasta dos
aunque sea hasta cinco
no ya para que acuda
presurosa en mi auxilio
sino para saber
a ciencia cierta
que usted sabe que puede
contar conmigo.
