Beaten Down

Silent is the voice
by fear and not choice
What once was a rebellious cry
now muted by the continued lie
All independent thought beaten into submission
as if identity was the cancer forced into remission
Broken and bleeding lips
raw, torn fingertips
Screams of agony aren't heard by those
who lie beyond where steel doors close
