BEAUTIFUL MONSTER

A beauty so distorted

A vision once sublime

Her face would make the angels sing

Got sweeter over time

‘Til the day her looks were taken

By a lowlife; vengeful man

Defaced her of a future

Did his deed and then he ran

Her family they were broken

Her life was stripped of hope

Pleasure; fun; frivolity

On its heels; it did elope

Ran away with her friend ‘future’

Stuck its fingers up to ‘love’

She never thought she’d ‘live’ again

Prayed for help from up above

But she was not a girl of faith

Hadn’t ever been to Mass

Didn’t know the Bible’s story

Was a ‘go-getting’ sort of lass

Now her fire was extinguished

And her soul was trodden down

Held her head up in the ruins

Of a life gone underground

In the depths of sheer despair

In a place no girl should go

Lived a life of solitude

A man’s touch she’d never know

But with courage and pure honour

And a heart now made of steel

She found faith and self-respect

In a love she knew was real

He embraced all that she was

And the flesh that she had lost

Admired; cared and wanted her

No matter what the cost

Saw the beauty deep within

Felt the love they shared as one

No longer did she see the beast

All 'doubt' in life was gone ..
