Being a dad and a single one at that

Being a dad and a single one at that

What’s being a dad?
A family man?
A father being there through the good times and the bad?
To pick up the pieces when your kids are crying or inexorably sad?
So far,
To me,
Its all of the above,
and even the times when they drive you round the bend and truly mad,
they’re still my kids and I’m still their dad.

For a while now,
 I’ve been their consoling counterpart,
Their mother cheated and left and tore their poor little worlds,
Not just hearts apart.
But it’s been 2 years since their pain did start,
She never hurt me,
Which she never seems to get,
Its all about my boys and her damning,
 damaging and detrimental affect!
In my eyes I can only do my best,
Whether my body likes it or not I have to push on,
Far further than my physical pain can test.
Mentally being there as their dad,
24/7 like every parent should,
Not just a few years,
Treating that part of your life as non existent moment,
Disappeared like a fad.
I’ll never do that as I love being my boys dad,
I’ll always love them and do everything,
Physically and mentally,
As best as I can.
I’m proud of my boys and what they achieve,
They need the future to be good,
As well as the here and the now,
I just wish their own mother would show them here love and remove her withches hood.
People always say to me,
“how do you do it?”,
My only answer to them is ,
I’m doing as I thought any loving parent would do,
Single mum or single dad,
Should and would.
Being a dad is just so special to me,
Each child is different,
But all 3 fill me with glee.
I love our new family cuddles,
The happiness my new partner has bought,
Filling our house with love,
Laughter and cuddles.
So needed that before their lives were fraught xx

Hi James
A very poignant reminder that in life not all things go to plan, relationships flourish and last and some don't
The heart wrenching thing that in a lot of breakups children suffer and can be often used as pawns.
So privileged to hear that your children are with you, happy and enjoying life. I hope you new relationship is the start of a blessed one. All the best mate and thanks for sharing

Thank you so much. Amazing words to describe it. Just how I feel any parent should b. If by the grace of God that they can. And I'm not religious but believe in graciousness and yo8r world will be complete  child or not
