Being Alien

Being Alien

I am
an alien man

Not from another planet
though it often feels that way

Not even from a different land
to use a current contentious context

I just don't relate
to normal cultural cues
that would allow me
to more easily assimilate
into our judgmental
slot driven society

Shrinks would diagnose
my misfit condition
as being on the spectrum
of that epidemic
they label autism

Because labels are important
to know what's inside
the rusted tin can

Did I tell you
I left the door open all night
but I never went to bed
so nothing bad got in

Cause I'm a frickin alien

And so are you

You just don't know it yet
