Best friends forever

Best friends forever

Off down the road
They'd walk hand in hand
Smiles beaming
Life was grand

Who said what
Catching up
You know she had gossip
She just had that look

Waiting for the bus
Off to cause trouble
When Nick was with her mama
The chance of this was double

Year after year
Nothing changed
The best of friend
So close it was strange

A confidante
They both found
Secrets together
When no one else was around

Both so devoted
A love they shared
No one hurt her mama
No one would dare

When she took ill
And she was unwell
I didn't have to ask
Mama's little girl

She gave up her job
And went everyday
Taking her kids
watched my mum once more play

But the strokes didn't let up
Hitting her eyesight
When facing cancer
Nick persuaded her to fight

Every battle they faught
Side by side
I watched my baby nurse her
And my heart filled with pride

What a team
What a pair
Best friends always
A true love and dedicated care

But as she grew weaker
And she got sicker and thin
My baby girl
Just wouldn't give in

If will power alone
Was a cure
My mum would have lived forever
Thats for sure

Even I wondered
How she carried on
Then the day I dreaded
And my babies best friend was gone

I looked in her eyes
And watched her heart break
This terrible pain
Nothing would ever ease this ache

She'd cry a silent tear
Nothing would ever ease
The loss of her best friend
Would she ever find peace

Even now
after all this time
I can see she misses her mama
I see it in her eyes

Sometimes at night
I can still hear their laughter
And see them hand in hand
Off to find 1 more adventure
