Betrayal: Hear Me Roar

You offered me a key to forever

then slammed the door of deception in my face

making vows not intent on keeping

suffocating all my dreams.

Each beat of my heart deafening

as my internal battle raged

trying to explain your lies

while trying to salvage my pride.

Had I not loved and trusted so completely

I would be spared these daggers of humiliation

that now scar my soul.

Betrayal will  do that.

Time moves swiftly as

I patiently await the sanctuary of

her healing rescue,

It is then I can rise above your treachery.

The sword of indignation embedded in me,

my heart will wear as a souvenir of

your  deceit  and disloyalty

not as a sign of weakness

but as a badge of strength

as I emerge again

sweeping the ashes of my despair

off my shoulders.
