BETWEEN THE TRENCHES

CAME CHRISTMAS DAY THAT YEAR WAR NOW TOOK A BREAK

MEN WERE ALL SO SAD FOR HOME AND CHRISTMAS CAKE

THE HARDSHIP OF THE TRENCHES THIS DAY WAS ALL FORGOTTEN

A SON A GERMAN SOLDIER TOWARDS ALLIED LINES CAME TROTTING

WHITE FLAG HELD UP HIGH WRITTEN CHALLENGE IN HIS HAND

HE AND ALL HIS COMRADE'S SOUGHT FOOTBALL IN NO MAN'S LAND

SO THERE BETWEEN THE TRENCHES WHERE BLOOD HAD FLOWN BEFORE

THIS GAME NOW SO REMARKABLE TOOK PLACE AMID THE GORE

THE ALLIES HELD THEIR NERVE TWO GOALS WERE NOW AHEAD

FOR HOURS THEY ALL FORGOT TOMORROW THEY COULD BE DEAD

GAME AT LAST WAS OVER THE ALLIES THEY HAD WON

SONG'S WERE SANG THAT EVENING UNTIL THE DAY WAS DONE

NEXT DAY THEY FACED EACH OTHER THIS TIME THEY DID AS FOE

ALL THOUGHTS ABOUT THAT CHRISTMAS DIED AS BLOOD DID FLOW

THAT GAME NOW PART OF HISTORY IT'S STILL TALKED ABOUT TODAY

AS RELATIVES NOW THEY VISIT THIS PLACE WHERE FAMILY LAY
