Big Bear

Big Bear
By Richard David Briggs
Dedicated to: The Merciful
Ice fishing on a frosty winter day,
Friend Raven caws to me afraid!
I spy a massive brownish beast!
Son surprisied his fear increased!
Our hounds howl without cease!
Silly Boy blabbers âSaw Big Bearâ!
In Whitemanâs town all ears hear!
Enrages tribe! Damage is done!
Sportsman, journalists do come!
Stuff local hotel, await dawnâs sun.
Sleep past, whiskey-eyes awake,
Dry mouths yawn, plans to make.
Bragging bunch on fleeting foot,
Out of control careless ways took,
Twisting trails, in cold caves look.
At Arrow point on Legend Lake,
Three hunters, a rest must take;
Lunch, smoke, drink beer, joke,
Spot the brute descend the crest.
Grab rifles! Get ready with zest!
Unaware Bear comes too close,
Whole head taller than the most,
Sniffs, detects their human scent,
Feigns attack, last warning sent.
Mother, cubs to safety each runs!
âCrazy City Bastardsâ cock guns!
Fire fire! Fire, fire! Fire, fire, fire!
Incensed ,mauls killers in a mire.
Horrible, human screams cry out,
Limbs bitten off, entrails fly about!
Slash! Livid faces on icy lake roll!
His fatal wounds do take their toll!
Mourning she moans grisly groans,
Mangles menâs arms,legs, bones!
Chomping them up in a furious fit!
Drops Bearâs body into a deep pit!
Manitou turns sky to purple cloud,
Sin to be buried in snowy shroud.
Nature defiled! Godâs Heart cries!
In wrath, a blinding blizzard flies!
