BIRTH

A mother to be lies on her bed
Legs outstretched
her mind perplexed
The midwife says, “it’s time to push
Easy now please don't rush”
Deep breaths love you’re nearly there
As mother  sucks on gas and air
Panting now as head starts to crown
Doctors rush and start to frown
Cord wrapped round the babies neck
He’s not going to make it, what to do next
Cord tied off clamped ready to cut
Scissors sharp but not too much blood
Oxygen placed on his tiny face
Time is of the essence no time to waste
Stethoscope placed to listen for his beat
Heart beat found sighs all around
Wrapped in a towel still covered in blood
Passed back to mum
who cuddles as she should
Life is beautiful
 this mother an amazing vessel.
