Black Velvet
No clouds at night can hide
the blazing of a million stars,
enfolded neatly all within
the jet bejewelled void.
The cosmic constellations
linger languidly in space,
awaiting wise soothsayers portents
of our earthly fate
Such mysteries as man can dream
kept hidden from our sight,
we bide our time and offer thanks
for deep,black velvet nights.

what great poem
Hi Greg, always worth the effort when people have enjoyed a piece..thank you so much xx
" Starlight, star bright, first star I've seen tonight.
Wish I may. Wish I might. Have, the wish, I wish tonight. "
WHEN, YOU " WISH UPON A STAR ".....YOU, HAVE HOPE.
You, have a will to see what the future holds. Do you not ?
Stars, in history, and related literature, bring those wishing to learn the " presence of mind " to consider.....OUR PLACE. In, the scheme of things.
WHAT, ARE WE ? Compared to......infinity, and eternity.
" Life ", as we know it, is reflected upon. To aid, the search for truth. And, the conduct to " make more " of ourselves.
" STAR MAN. " Surely, we shall always be obsessed with our " lot ", and what we can achieve, relating to the MAGNITUDE of where we stand, and where we fall ?
Write, of substance. Thanks, for sharing.Â
Oh my Richard such interesting points you make and all totally relatable! Thank you so much for reading and connecting with this piece..truly appreciate it.Â
:) Poetry....is all about, connections. Between, spirit and language, passion and identity, emotion and expression, plus, the body with an understanding mind. Why, would that not be ? Considering, the " versatile " nature of it.
Thanks. :)
Grammy,Â
What a beautiful poem! I love the stars, and the night sky, and your poem is a beautiful reflection of it. There's something about the night sky that makes you realize you're mortal, yet created by something Special.Â
Awesome write!Â
Matthew.Â
