Blue Eyes

Blue Eyes

I saw her eyes from across the room
They called me like an angels harp.
I had no way to refuse their promise
Her eyes so perfectly blue
Like iceberg’s cool and soft and blue

You have touched my soul from afar
making it sing love songs.
Filling it with need and love
Come to me my lover she said.

We broke our vows so easily
Just her smile a chain I could not break
Such perfection.
She was all was all I ever needed
So beautiful she touched my heart
I was a complete man once more.
She saw me as a man a lover
not a husband or father

Come to me my lover
fall into my arms
‘I am falling in love with you
So much in love
She said

Why could we have not met before?
At least before the children came.
We are star-crossed
We belong together she said

She ended it
I was not strong enough for that.
I mourned her like a death.
Never finding my lady
as a woman again
Only a wife and a mother

I saw her again
some years later
It was in the Christmas holidays
the snow falling
like misty down feathers.
Christmas Carols
Played in the village square.
She was with her son
now a young man.

I saw her blue diamonds of eyes.
That unforgettable smile.
I almost called her name
But caught my breath
Stopping myself just in time.

Instead I sat on a park bench
In the falling snow.
Put my head in my hands
and wept like a child
