Blue Sky Sunday (for BookWorm's contest...'Childhood')

Blue Sky Sunday (for BookWorm's contest...'Childhood')

Meet me under the tamarind tree
when all the 'canaries' sleep
after the sacred
 Sunday afternoon
cathedral bells stop moving
and I’ll draw a circle
we'll pitch marbles
and lose our poverty in laughter
Singing silly songs in the breeze
 as clouds float past us
  in the baby blue sky
 past the sun,
past the trees
Past all the sleeping 'canaries'

childhood is meant to be special i caught a glimpse of what yours was about
blue sky shooting marbles not a care in the world correct if im wrong
laughter singing not realizing or feeling any poverty

thanks for comment, Linda....I was born in Trinidad, an island in the West Indies, spent the first ten years of my life there, had some good days playing marbles, Sunday afternoons were very quiet, never needed money to play in the yard, cheers poet

Hi Christopher, such a lovely write!! My immediate thoughts are that in childhood all things are possible through the medium of play, laughter and innocence. If only we could capture that spirit forever..truly enjoyed this and will be pinning it to remind me never to lose the child inside!

Hi Christopher,  This reminds me of stories my father told me about his upbringing. They would spend many days playing marbles or (chucks) with friends. I like to whole Idea of being kids and feeling like the world was sleeping and having the place to yourselves. Coming from a mining community am I right to construe that the sleeping canaries are reference to the miners?? ( I could be very wrong ) but just my interpretation
Thanks for sharing...I really enjoyed this :D

hey Lorna, that is very cool....haven't even seen marbles in years (chucks)  I never looked at it like that, 'having the place to yourself'  so very true....as for the canary reference, my now deceased uncle had a whole lot of canaries and it popped in my head, thank you so much for commenting, and I'm glad you enjoyed this piece, it was a pleasure recollecting, cheers

I really enjoyed this refreshing imagery of children at play, like they're in their own little world. Well done, dear friend! :-)
