Box of Glass Corners

Box of Glass Corners

I laughed when they told me.
What else could I have done?
They thought they knew my story,
thought they started on page one.

She told me "don't complain."
She said "your smile is so pure."
Told me that I hadn't known pain,
I couldn't compare to her.

He told me "you don't pretend."
He said "you've never forced a smile."
Told me I couldn't comprehend
what it felt like in exile.

Honestly its quite amusing,
that they think they've got it bad.
To see how they are viewing
this image I've always had.

For just one moment I wonder
if they would feel so very right.
If I dropped this facade, the cover
on which they've judged my life.

If they could turn the page,
knew how to read between the lines.
If I showed them the pain
that is weaved throughout my life.

But I forever have my orders,
they leave no room for doubt.
I'm in a box of glass corners,
and I never will get out.
