Too Early For This

Written around 6 a.m.

Too Early For This

It’s dark outside, the sun is sleeping, so clearly,
6 in the morning is still the middle of the night.
And I hope next time you won’t say to me,
that, at six a.m., everything is “alright”.

So when this comes up again, and you start to knock,
because unfortunately we both know you will.
Just for a moment, would you glance at the clock,
and note that everyone else is still?

I’ll put a note on the wall, hang a sign on the door.
I’ll write it down in a greeting card.
If it isn’t past 8, wait outside on the floor.
Or just leave me alone - it isn’t that hard.

I completely refuse to even open my eyes,
though I do applaud you for being so brave.
“Morning” is not before the sun bothers to rise.
Unless you’re that ready for an early grave.
