Brent geese

Best do I remember him
that day of spring's rebirth
yet numbered were his days,
strolling on a stony strand
oh how I do recall
the day those geese took flight
A glint amongst the grey
with glee his eyes ascended
to splendour on the skies,
guile forged from grit
as endeavour took a bow
plumed in black and white
Compelled I was to capture
the moment in a frame
but "embrace it" I was taught,
another bounty from nature's realm
his heart soared on many wings
to dance with their delight
Confined that day to memory now
his soul dances in the clouds
heavy lies the heart in mourning,
now spring hearlds a dawn again
my hope ascends on their return
those Brent geese of noble flight.
