Broken Hearts

Broken Hearts
Funny how I found it easy to hate,
A man who dared to just express.
The songs about your weight,
I sung out loud I must confess.
Every time you got the blame,
As a nation, we let you down.
You were bigger than our game,
A king without his crown.
I think back on days gone by,
Wish I could go back to the start.
Emotions high, they made you cry,
The only man, who broke my heart.
It happened twice in ninety six,
You made fools of one and all.
Stole the show, had all the tricks,
The belle of any ball.
The way you came so close,
Felt like such a crime.
I think the world froze,
Wish I could turn back time.
Thanks for being you my man,
You are a shining light.
Feel proud to say I am a fan,
Don’t give up your fight.
It’s easy to just give up,
Almost hoping for the end.
I want you to win life’s cup,
Just be happy my friend.

Hello Grant, Great write, Very honest and heart felt. I loved the ending lines

Lovely till the end. Great job. Cheers!
Thanks for the comments guys. It was written about a football player called Gazza who has struggled with his genius all his life. In 1996 he scored a goal against my Scotland playing for England, one of the best goals ever seen. He then scored x2 goals in the cup final against the team I support Hearts when playing for Rangers. He won both games by himself.Â
I am meeting with the man himself next week and IÂ thought IÂ would write him something recognising both his talent and his humanity.
