The Broken Tree

The tree in my front yard
was broken by the storm
 it won't be long
Till we have to cut it down
For many years now
it has given much shade
 the birds called it home;
So many nests they made
When summer came
what a pretty sight it was
blowing proud in the wind
the envy of all our neighbours
what a shame,
what a pity
to have to start all over again--
Cause I really loved that tree

hey Cherie, what a beautiful comment, thank you... had a really bad storm here two years ago, that damaged thousands of trees, many had to be cut down, there are streets with 40 year old trees that are cut at the stump, as you well know, it will take a generation or more to get trees back on these streets, if they are planted now, even the tree in my front yard is rotted in places and may have to be cut down, it's over twenty years old... this is indeed about had sad it is to lose all these trees, and starting your life over is difficult as well, lol I'm not much of a tree hugger myself but I love trees, especially mango and guava fruit trees lol....cheers sisÂ
Hey Mamma Jamma!!........you have a gift for continuity..........your measure of "staying home" with this piece...........is smart..........and intuitive..........utter simplicity as Samuel Clemens might find amusement in his delivery.........perfection in it's humility............intuitively conceived and delivered.........with the magnificence that IS Curtis Longstreet!!............subtly understated aggressiveness...........kisses.........T xo
Hey T, thanks for comment....I'm sure I sent a thank you before, but it didn't show up, I'm flattered to me in the same paragraph as Samuel Clemens and Curtis Longstreet....hugzÂ
hey, charlotte, I'm so honored by your comments  and yes, you got the meaning very well, I do love trees, to me they bring life wherever they grow, and in the suburbs they are even more relevant, with so many houses, groceries and man made things, it comforts me to see trees standing strong and green, and as for this poem, an ice storm came one winter and destroyed thousands of trees including the one in my front yard, the tree had been there for over fifteen years, the same age as the neighborhood. Almost every tree was cut down and uprooted and to me, the street looks barren without them....I did use the tree and the storm as a metaphor to show that life presents unexpected changes.....wow, so glad you took the time with this one, it brings back a lot of memories reading this one again...cheers poet   Â
