Bump on a log
Most of my life I felt
I like a bump on a log
I felt my life was in the fog
And my brain was clog
Like a drain
Then came the rain
I was never the same
As I try to play this game
Of life as they say my name
In vain as I get on this train
I was a bump on a log
But once the fog was gone
Then came the dawn and
The rising of the sun
And then the world will have fun
The bump on a log.

Hello Greg...
ββThis is hilarious!
It reminded me of something my Mother would say a lot to me in the Summers...
It wasn't constant but, it was repeated...
She would say be a bump on a log for 5 minutes...
How do I do that?
She said find something and sit on it...
So I sat on the grass...
Is this being a bump on the lawn?
βββββI stood up...
My Mother said that was about forty seconds...
I said I see something I will be right back...
My Mother had the weekends off and she wanted to tan, it was a nice sunny day...
She was laying in her chair with her eyes closed...
I said Mom a little louder than a whisper...
She said what?
I said I don't want to be a bump so I'm going to go play...
Here came one of my Brother's...
What's that he asked me?
I showed him...
He said does Mom know you have that?
I shrugged my shoulders...
I don't know if she opened her eyes I was looking at my find...
She didn't say anything...
He said where's Mom and Dad?
Nevermind where's Mom?
Mom's in the sun in the chair...
That's where I left her...
He yells Mom do you know what she has in her hands?
My Mother oh hi son...
What are you serious?
He can yell from the end of the driveway and I can't talk normally on the grass?
Sensitive grass?
I was 4-5 years old I didn't know...
Ask why and you're asking too many questions...
You're on your own as a little kid to try and figure it out...
Mom do you know she's carrying a frog?
She's petting it and she named it Hopper...
βββYou have a Frog?
Get back here right now!
I can't pick up a Frog in my yard?
Yes Mom...
Open your hands...
I can only open 1 at a time...
I don't want to drop Hopper...
After a few minutes Hopper and I left and we went and played in the woods...
We got back home awhile before dark...
I yelled HELP!
Everyone came running...
I wasn't expecting that...
What's wrong?
I need help getting Hopper his home...
You have to let Hopper go My Dad said...
I knew not to act like a baby...
Don't cry...
Don't have a tantrum...
Don't yell...
Pouting was as needed...
It went with the sad eyes...
Don't stomp your feet...
That started 9 years later and yup it worked pretty good especially when you're right and they know they're wrong...
βββββMy oldest brother said oh oh !
My Dad said hush...
ββββββMy Mother yelled get that out of this house right now!
I wasn't in the house...
I was on the porch...
I'm not in the house Mom...
My other Brother said I'm going to go to our room...
They shared a room...
I had a room to myself...
My Dad said...
Nope...
You're staying right here...
My Brother said why?
I was at work all day this is the first I'm having a Frog experience from my baby sister on our porch...
He started laughing...
My Dad said don't encourage her...
I said he was going to go to their room...
Now, we were both in trouble...
Wait until my Dad stops yelling...
Why are you still standing here holding that frog?
You always said don't walk away when you're talking...
I didn't know if I could walk away when you're yelling...
I need to have a Mansion for Hopper...
My Brother said Oh my God she's suicidal...
βββββThe Mansion turned out amazing!
Thank you so much Greg for sharing this...

I loved your story, made me laugh
A little also find it interesting that you went out to play and then come back when it got dark you donβt see kids doing that today playing outside until it gets dark
Thanks for your story I loved it
Thanks for reading my poem
I greatly enjoyed the rhyme scheme and the light comedic delivery of some heavy feelings. Thanks for brightening my day.Β
Thank you, Rob
Very glad you enjoyed
Hello Greg...
ββββββI was able to go outside and play and walk the block alone when I was 5...
That's how I met my best friend and some other friends......
Even though I was 3 months older than 1 friend and 7months older than my best friend I was a grade ahead...
They were in the same grade...
We didn't go to School together so if I didn't explore I don't know when ββwe would have met...
They couldn't go Trick or Treating alone with me until they got older so we would just happen to bump into each other and their parents got tired and wanted to go home...
Since we weren't tired they gave us a chance to stay out alone and every so often they would have to shine their flashlights into their living rooms so their parents knew they were ok...
My parents said I had to be home by 8 until I was able to convince them 9 is fair...
My friends still had to be home by 8...
ββββββCandy was too awesome back then you couldn't leave a house with decorations and the lights on unknocked...
I wouldn't want to be a kid today...
I did aΒ couple fundraisers for Jerry Lewis...
I was 12 and I walked the Boston Marathon and I had lots of sponsors and I finished...
My sponsors had bet against me...
They were mad at all the dough they had to give me...
Another fundraiser I did was just a volunteering thing to help with activities for Jerry's kids...
We were told Jerry might show up but, he didn't....
Glad you enjoyed!
