Poem -

Buried treasure.

Buried treasure.

Her box of special things, tattied with layers of brown tape.
Inside, oddly shaped diamonds. High value, worth nothing.

They all attach a familiar scent. Musty dust from years passed. A warmth as the smell reaches the back of the throat and the memory hits.

The dust from twenty five homes carrying a sweet space from each to the next.

On occasion she reaches to the back of the cupboard, to carefully inspect each perfectly kept thing.

The cardboard layers scrape against eachother, ejecting an invisible cloud of dust to reveal its contents.

The four walls of the box, secret keepers.

The jewels transport back in time, to places not forgotten but out of mind.

Times that want to be kept and never forgotten.

The flashes of light amongst the dark.

The small connections to an innocent time, a safe escape.

Oh pretty diamonds.

Hi Punzy, hope you are very well and that your new year has so far been magical. This is a wonderfully enchanting write and had me rummaging through my treasure boxes of old, tarnished football and boxing medals, (that still shine brightly with memories of past glories, some embellished by myself of course! :) letters, postcards, badges, concert tickets, Peregrine Falcon feathers and Roman soldiers given by a long lost uncle, All of no value but so precious. Anyway, I´m off to rummage a little more to see what else I can find, :) Really enjoyed reading this write that inspired much rummaging through old shoe boxes, wallets, baggage, sacks, lofts, draws, carrier bags, jacket pockets, cupboards, bin liners, I didn´t realise I had so much stuff! :) Thank you!  Take great care Punzy! xx
